Speech Therapist smile with #1 foam fingers celebrating winning the Best of NWA Award

What makes a great speech therapy team?

by Cindy Watson, M.S., CCC-SLP, Children’s TEAM Chief Experience Officer, University of Arkansas Instructor

At Children’s Therapy TEAM, we take pride in having the BEST Pediatric and Adolescent Speech-Language Pathologists in Northwest Arkansas. Our expertise sets us apart — we have more combined years of experience, surpassing all other providers in the area.

Therapists Provide Alternative Augmentative Communication Evaluation and Support

Alternative Augmentative Communication (AAC) can be transformative for those struggling to communicate. Our TEAM SLPs are trained to assess if AAC is suitable for their clients. Once determined, treatment begins with our dedicated therapists. We have passionate SLPs who lead our TEAM and provide support to therapists, families, caregivers, and clients. Providing a voice to our clients is incredibly rewarding and impactful.

Certified Academic Language Therapists

Several of our SLPs are Certified Academic Language Therapists (CALTs), specially trained to work with language-based learning differences like dyslexia and dysgraphia. When effective interventions are implemented, it can significantly improve reading skills, comprehension, and overall academic performance. Our CALTs are trained in evidence-based intervention, providing personalized support to individuals with dyslexia, and assisting them in their literacy journey.

Apraxia Trained Therapists

One of our other specialties is helping children with Apraxia, a speech sound disorder. Our therapy focuses on improving the movement of speech structures and muscles during speech attempts, increasing clearer and more accurate communication.

Therapists Supporting Feeding and Swallowing

Our SLPs also specialize in feeding therapy. Feeding intervention is vital for developing safe and effective feeding skills, particularly in children. Through assessments, personalized plans, and collaboration, we address swallowing disorders, oral motor delays, and sensory aversions, using various techniques for improved oral intake and feeding success.

Therapists Collaborate with Behavior Analysts

We are privileged to have a team of Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) who train our therapists and provide daily onsite support for behavior issues. Managing behaviors is key to guiding individuals toward positive actions and interactions, enhancing the effectiveness of therapy sessions. SLPS must focus on immediate success to build trust and confidence with their clients, encouraging them to engage in therapy effectively.

Growing as Clinicians

All our SLPs adhere to the American Speech Hearing Association’s (ASHA) Code of Ethics, ensuring ongoing education and services based on professional reasoning. We prioritize the continuing education of our therapists to stay current with the latest developments in our field, guaranteeing the highest standards of care at TEAM

At TEAM, our commitment to excellence in speech-language pathology is evident through our dedicated and knowledgeable team of clinicians. Children’s Therapy TEAM’s Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) bring passion to their work. From supporting Alternative Augmentative Communication (AAC) to addressing language-based learning differences with Certified Academic Language Therapists (CALTs), and from helping children with Apraxia to providing essential feeding therapy, our SLPs cover a wide range of needs.

Our collaborative approach, involving Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) and continuous professional development, ensures that we provide the highest standards of care. By staying current with the latest advancements and upholding the American Speech Hearing Association’s (ASHA) Code of Ethics, our goal is to provide the most effective and compassionate support. At TEAM, we are not just providing therapy; we are empowering individuals with the tools and confidence they need to progress in their communication and beyond.
