Kellie Garrett’s favorite quote is “minimize the disability and maximize the ability.” For Kellie, working with children to maximize their “ability” is part of her family legacy. Her mother devoted her career as a Speech-Language Pathologist and Special Education Director to doing just that. She served as Kellie’s guiding role model, inspiring Kellie to pursue work with children as an Occupational Therapist. Kellie went on to receive her Master’s of Occupational Therapy Degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (2015). Active in the Texas Tech Occupational Therapy Association, Kellie served in a number of volunteer leadership roles. These roles included supporting a parent respite program called Night Owls. Through Kellie’s work in the Pi Theta Epsilon Honors Society, she and others worked to expand knowledge of the profession of occupational therapy by leading continuing education opportunities. She was also integrally involved with presenting a community-wide presentation titled, Aquatics: Properties and Therapeutic Interventions. In Kellie’s work with children, she not only draws on her fieldwork training at Children’s Therapy TEAM, but also her past work experience as a caretaker for children with Arthrogryposis and lead teacher at The Children’s Center in Bryan, Texas.
When not providing therapy services to children, Kellie also serves as a Health and Life Fitness Coach for people of all ages. Kellie enjoys being outdoors, particularly hiking and kayaking and attending life groups at her church. Kellie was born and raised in Texas, but loves Northwest Arkansas. She and her husband even support the Razorbacks, when they are not playing the Aggies.
