T.E.A.M. Achilles kids

T.E.A.M.’s  Achilles Kids is a running, walking, rolling, and swimming program for children and teens with ALL types of ABILITIES! Our mission is to enable children with disabilities to participate in regular exercise in order to promote self-esteem, improve health, and have fun!

For more than 20 years, Achilles programs have been breaking down barriers and raising awareness about physical and cognitive disabilities by encouraging exercise at all levels.  Regular workouts and races offer more than 11,000 children a sense of achievement and hope.

Volunteer and competitive internship opportunities are available.

The Virtual Marathon

As T.E.A.M. kids participate in exercise during their regular therapy sessions, their distance of steps or feet completed is translated into miles. Over time, their distance is tracked along a personalized Virtual Marathon (26.2 mile) route from T.E.A.M.’s Clinic in Fayetteville to T.E.A.M.’s Bentonville Clinic. Achieving this distance offers a child enormous self-pride… and prizes!

Proven to successfully integrate exercise with daily life, the Achilles Kids Program is all about adapting to meet the needs of each individual child. Through running, walking, rolling, swimming, and other forms of movement, we motivate kids to live a healthy, active lifestyle.

Achilles Connection

Children’s Therapy T.E.A.M. OT Mary Dean long dreamed of bringing the Achilles International program to Arkansas. She initially discovered Achilles while working in New York. There she belonged to a local Achilles chapter and regularly guided athletes with disabilities running in races including half marathons and marathons.

In 2019, with the support of her fellow T.E.A.M. members, family, friends, and Achilles International, she gathered support to begin Arkansas’ very first Achilles program! Supporters can follow the local NWA Achilles Chapter on Facebook and on Instagram
